Chemotherapy Mdeication for Mesothelioma

Navelbine is a chemotherapy drug that is primarily used to treat lung cancer but it is also often used as medication for mesothelioma. It is a semi-synthetic drug which is also called Vinorelbine. It is categorized as a 'plant alkaloid' being derived from periwinkle leaves.
Compared with other chemotherapy medications, Navelbine was noted to have a higher success rate. This drug hinders the division and replication of cells, causing them to die. This drug is often used in addition to other treatments like combined chemotherapy or surgery. It is intravenously administered once a week, approximately one hour per session.
If a patient has liver problems, as well as physical malfunctions of the lungs, nerves, blood or bone marrow, Navelbine is definitely not recommended for him. That is why it is important to have a discussion between the patient and his physician prior to any chemotherapy treatment.
It is equally important to inform your doctor if there are serious side effects while taking Navelbine. This can include any of the following:

*Abdominal pains
*Allergies - breathing difficulties, swelling of the tongue, lips or face, closing of the throat
*Blood problems and decreased functions of the bone marrow - easy bleeding or bruising, extreme fatigue, tarry or bloody stools, symptoms of infections
*Lung problems - coughing or shortness of breath
*Severe constipation
Other common side effects of chemotherapy drugs may also be observed. These are:
*Appetite loss
*Diarrhea
*Hair loss
*Inflamed lips
*Nausea
*Mouth sores
*Minor fatigue
*Vomiting
Note also that patients under Navelbine treatment may have a decrease in the functions of the immune system and is therefore advised to avoid close contact with sick persons.
The progress of the treatment may be properly documented to help you stay organized. Any appearance or occurrence of side effects, no matter how minor should be communicated to the doctor.
